"Ecah!"

"..."

"Hey Ecah! I know you're listening to me."

"I'm warning you, don't call me Ecah!"

"Ecah! Ecah~ Oh hoiii Ecah!"

An eight years old Amir chuckled to himself upon seeing Ecah directed her deadly stare to him and ran away from her once he regarded his mission as accomplished. He had no idea why he loved making her angry so much. He was easily amused whenever he saw Ecah became mad.

He has been accustomed to exchange banters and bickers with Ecah since he was in his tender years of age since they both grew up together due to their parents who were best friends of each other. They grew up together, yes but they were never best friends. They were more of foes because Amir loved to tease Ecah and Ecah hated him for that.

Just like Ecah, he would rush to finish his meal early during recess everyday due to different reasons. Ecah did so so she could self appoint herself as a prefect, guarding the disabled children from being teased, ridiculed and make fun of by the normal school children of her age, or older. As for Amir, he did so so he could follow and observe what Ecah would be doing.

Their primary school was kind of special since they have special classes for disabled children, too. By sharing the same school compound, it sparked the curiosity within the normal, curious young kids of their age that often lead to poking fun on the special children and Ecah totally hated that.

Although the normal children's and special children's recess time were different, that didn't stop the naughty students from visiting the block where special classes were situated and making fun of the innocent children from outside of their classes when their teachers were not around. Ecah would often ran after those good for nothing naughty students and gave them a lesson or two. She was fearless and fierce and Amir often found himself smiling upon seeing her fierce self from afar. She was fierce, but he knew her heart was actually soft, like velvet.

There was this one day when there was this one big bully in school came to the special classes' block and tried make fun of the children from outside of the classes. Ecah stopped him from doing so and a fight broke out between the two. As the kid was taller and bigger than her so Amir decided to meddle in.

It turned out that it was rather a bad decision since he was easily knocked off by the kid and was badly beaten instead. Ecah came to his rescue instead by putting into use the taekwondo lessons that she learned and in the end, the big bully fled from the scene, crying.

Ecah sighed upon seeing his wounds and started nagging at him on how he should not have tried to meddle in the fight earlier. He pouted and had his head hung low. Despite of the nagging, she surprisingly handed him a bar of chocolate that she fished out from the pocket of her pinafore to thank him. She suddenly chuckled at him and Amir's face went red due to the embarrassment.

It was a rare sight to see her laughter and her being kind towards him so he was rather delighted to receive that bar of chocolate from her.

They smiled sweetly at each other but after a moment of realisation that they were actually being in good terms for the first time, they quickly moved inches away from each other and pretended that it never happened.

"If you don't wish to have the whole school and our parents knew about the earlier incident, you better be good towards me and stop calling me 'Ecah', Amir"

Amir froze for a few seconds upon listening to the blackmail by Ecah but he just couldn't stop the urge to tease her, like always.

"Well too bad the big bully probably tell the teachers and schoolmates about it already by now. So in your dream, Zara...Ecah!"

"My name is Zara Aishah, you good for nothing Amir! It's Zara!"

He stuck out his tongue at her and ran away with the bar of chocolate that he received. He did stop calling her Ecah afterwards because she tattletale about the matter to their parents and he was later scolded about it. But he can never stop teasing her because it became one sort of entertainment in his life.

He never told anyone about this but he actually developed a soft spot for chocolates because of the one she gave him, and also secretly developed a soft spot for her ever since.

...

"What did you dream of, Amir? You were smiling throughout your nap and I find it rather weird."

Amir opened up her eyes and his sight was being greeted with a beautiful view that was his beautiful wife. He smiled, and took her hand and placed it on his chest.

"You."

She laughed over Amir's cliche and cheesy answer but smiled happily nevertheless. She never told anyone about this but she had once, albeit very briefly, developed a soft spot for Amir when he tried to fight with the bully on her behalf when they were kids.

Vanila Coklat - Short Short #1

I don't feel like giving away explanations on how this zaramir fanfic/short short was born written and suffice to say that the blame goes to this acutezaramirfangirlchitis disease I'm having at the moment.

Just like the previous posts, I have a hunch that I'll be facepalming myself when I read this post once again in the future lmao. My fangirling is rather chronic. :(

So without further ado

No words could describe the feelings felt by Amir the moment his fingers intertwined with Zara's. Her small hand fit his perfectly and the warmth felt from her touch travelled through his veins and reached his heart. He gave her an attentive look as she excitedly told him how amazingly beautiful the flowers in the garden were. He nodded in agreement, but silently told himself that for him, she's far more beautiful than the millions bulbs of flowers that were surrounding them in Keukenhof Garden at the moment. With his source of happiness by his side in this small town of Lisse, he smiled as if he was the happiest man on earth. Well perhaps he was.

He waited with a smile as she carefully opened the picnic basket as they sat under a shady tree after a long walk around the garden. She handed him a small box of sandwiches happily. He took a look at the cute, unevenly cut sandwiches prepared by Zara the rookie cook and almost broke into a laughter but suppressed it hard enough, afraid of offending her. He found it cute that although she was yet to master the skills of cooking, she would not let that to hinder her from trying to serve the best she could. She made him love her even more.

"Thank you." He reached for her hand, squeezed it tight and planted a kiss on her forehead, surprising her. She laughed lightly albeit a bit puzzled over his act. She just brushed it off with a smile and placed her head on his shoulder and she was able to smell the perfume he had on.

He took a bite of the sandwich and complimented his wife's cooking skill with exaggeration, the same way he often see his Daddy did to his Mummy. Lucky Zara didn't fall for such a trap and warned him through a light pinch on his cheek that resulted in giggles between the two afterwards.

"I have no idea why I'm suddenly curious as to who your first love was."

Amir almost choked on the food upon hearing such a random statement of curiosity by Zara. It was weird but he was suddenly blushing, and nervous.

"I... can't remember" He stuttered. He had to let out a chuckle to put a disguise on his nervousness. Zara took it as one of the teasing she often received by Amir the menace, and pretended to be sulking. She even pushed him lightly and moved inches away. He had his mischievous smile on and pulled her closer, and parked his chin onto her shoulder. Now it was his turn to breathe in her perfume.

"Sayang..."

She decided to stretch her 'fake the sulk' game to be longer so she chose not to answer him.

"I don't think it's that important to reveal who my first love was because it was all in the past. What matters now is the present, and the future. Have my words, Zara, for you are my love now and until the very end. Do you want to know how much I love you? I want you to count the raindrops that have fallen from the sky so that you'll know how much my love for you is."

Zara couldn't hold it any longer and burst into fits of laughter.

"Ya Allah, how cheesy can you get, Mr. Playboy Wannabe? Please, save the cheesiness for the sandwiches. You must be crazy for wanting me to do an impossible thing that is counting the raindrops. Go and count them yourself."

"You're killing the romantic mood, Zara." Amir pouted briefly and Zara playfully pushed his face away from hers.

"...and consider yourself lucky because of your kind of reasonable justification on the present and future thing, I've decided not to probe into the matter further."

Amir let out a relieved laugh and after a few seconds, he made his way to lie down on the mat with the back of his head rested on Zara's lap.

"A five minutes nap, please"

Zara nodded as a signal allowing him to do so while playfully touching the tips of his hair. She traced the temporary creases on his forehead with her finger and watched him closed his eyes slowly with a smile on his face. It was probably then she perfectly understood the true meaning of bliss.

Amir was slowly drifting into a brief slumber but didn't take off that smile on his face. Zara 's curiosity earlier caught him off-guard and truth was, it was not that he didn't remember. In fact, he can perfectly remember who she was. It was just that he didn't feel like revealing that to Zara just yet. Amir was slowly pulled into a dream full of memories between him and his first love. Flashes from the past visited his slumber with the details of her face, her voice, her haircut and even the nickname that he gave her back then, the one she loathed so much:

"Ecah!"
